Binding

Here's a little recent achievements:

Binding glued down with the helping hand of masking tape
planing and scraping the purfling&binding flush
to the panels

A family portrait. They all come with the same body design
I drew for the one with neck and strings.
Nice tops, both of them in their own way... The chocolate
one is sinker redwood with abalone/rosewood rosette and
koa binding. The vanilla one is Lutz spruce with abalone
rosette and flamed maple binding
The sisters. The one on the right still needs some scraping.
Both have a tapered body, a bit more aggressive on
the left one. And both need next some serious sanding.

Router for binding

Last night I made a simple guide for routing the binding channels with a Dremel tool. It's fully adjustable and working SO well!
I got the idea from Luthier's Cool Tools site. It really is cool!
Unfortunately this pic isn't too good.

Last peeks inside

The koa-guitar's box (not the case yet) has been closed. Here are the last photos of the insides before the (hopefully) final closing.
Here you get the idea of the Linda Manzer's Wedge desing
(or my trying to get there). The body is tapered towards the
bass side to make it easier to hold and play. In this pic there's
still some sanding to go.
The koa in the back looks awesome - even without finish on it!
Umm... I think I'll need to work with those top edges before i give it out. Better make a note...

The soundport cut. It's purpose is to provide
the player with a bit more sound.
Kinda personal monitor thing... It'll also bring some
"dimensionality" to the sound, especially in smaller rooms.
This is my firm belief...

I felt the soundport area needed some extra
support and put an extra brace  there.
And yes, the top is trimmed flush
to the sides too

Glue spread, just seconds before the closing.
Here we go...

Pekka's box

I'm starting to put together Pekka's box. I kind of like this phase, when I've got all the beautiful parts in my hands, get to see inside and (almost) nothing is ruined yet in the assembly process.

Purfling&binding

Some progress to be reported:
the classic herringbone purfling bordered with koa-binding. Not bad at all

Getting it together

The baritone box is starting to seriously take shape. I´m trying a Manzer Wedge kind of thing on this one - to make the pretty thick guitar a bit more playable. That's why the rim looks a bit weird if you take a closer look.
I tried X-bracing the back also. Don't know if it makes any difference, but to my eye, it looks kinda cool..
O, and there's a toneport cut to the upper bout of the treble side. It's for projecting the sound of the guitar to the player (that'd be me).
